Citrine: Colour, Treatment and How to Choose a Piece

Citrine is prized for its sunny yellow-to-honey colour and the warmth it adds to a shelf, desk or gift. It is often linked in crystal traditions with abundance, confidence and creative focus, but the practical choice comes down to colour, transparency, treatment and shape.

Natural vs heat-treated Citrine

Natural Citrine is uncommon. Much of the commercial Citrine market is heat-treated quartz, often heat-treated Amethyst. Neither is automatically “better” for a decorative collection, but the treatment should be stated clearly so you can buy knowingly. Always rely on the individual product description and actual photos.

How to choose a Citrine piece

  • Colour: choose pale champagne, honey or richer orange depending on your display.
  • Clarity: transparent areas, veils and inclusions all create different character.
  • Shape: towers suit shelves and desks; spheres and freeforms create softer focal points.
  • Size: check centimetres and weight before buying.

Traditional meaning

Citrine is often chosen as a visual reminder for goal-setting, abundance or positive momentum. These are personal symbolic associations, not medical or financial promises.

Crystals are decorative and personal-ritual objects, not medical products.
