Rainbow Fluorite is valued for layered purple, green, clear and sometimes blue-toned colour zoning. A single piece can shift from one colour to another in bands, clouds or geometric-looking sections, making pattern the strongest reason to choose one piece over another.
Look for colour zoning
Some Fluorite has sharp purple-green bands, while other pieces blend more gradually. Translucency can make the layers especially visible when light passes through the stone.
Fluorite is relatively soft
Fluorite is easier to scratch or chip than quartz, so polished towers, slabs and points benefit from careful handling and separate storage from harder stones.
