Raw and polished crystals are the same natural materials presented differently. Raw crystals preserve more original surface and growth form. Polished crystals are shaped to reveal colour, inclusions and pattern. Neither is automatically more authentic or more powerful.
Raw crystals
- Show natural crystal faces, matrix and texture
- Have an irregular individual silhouette
- Can be delicate around points and edges
- Suit earthy, collector-style displays
Polished crystals
- Have smooth surfaces that are easy to handle
- Offer predictable shapes for styling
- Make colour bands, veils and rainbows easier to see
- Include towers, spheres, freeforms, hearts and palm stones
Does polishing change the meaning?
In traditional practice, meaning is usually linked to the material. Shape changes how someone uses and displays it, but polishing does not remove the stone’s identity.

Care
Use a soft dry brush for raw pieces and a soft cloth for polished surfaces. Protect both from drops and strong chemicals.
